Beginner Snow Skiing Lessons : How to Recover from Losing a Ski in a Fall

Hi! This is Dave Smith with Hillcrest Ski
and Sports in Gresham, Oregon on behalf of Expert Village. In this tutorial we will cover
beginning skiing. In this clip we’ll cover what to do when you’ve experienced a fall
where you lose one or both skis. Ski bindings are designed to release when you take a bad
fall in order to protect your knees and the rest of your body from further injury as you
tumble. If you lose a ski or both skis the first thing is to stand up and quickly collect
your equipment so that it doesn’t get in the way of other skiers. Once you have your skis
you need to check and make sure that your binding is in a position where it’s ready
to receive your boot again. Specifically, you need to look at the heel piece and make
sure that the back of the heel piece is down so that you can step into your binding. It’s
easiest to do this in a relatively flat spot. So, if you have one near you move to that
spot. If you need to do it on a slope, it’s easiest to step into your binding when the
ski is on your uphill leg.
