GoPro Ski: Backcountry Skiing in Chile – The Magic of the Super C

Articles Blog

Having traveled on all
seven continents and been in every major mountain range in
the world, one of the most magical places I’ve ever found in my whole life is
this place right here, Portillo, Chile. Portillo is located high
in the Chilean Andes. Right on the Los Libertadores Pass, main
trade route between Chile and Argentina. We’re headed up to climb on top,
on one of the world’s greatest couloirs, the Super-C. We have some work to do, but all great
things take a little bit of effort. All right,
we’re climbing up to the Super-C. It’s a gorgeous morning in September. We got Sierra, Myaomi right here and we’re about one-fourth,
one quarter of the way up there. This is what I live for.>>Yee hee hee hee hoo.>>Yeah. We did it. It’s not an easy hike?>>No, it’s a good one, it’s steep.>>And we can see where we started and
it’s four grand.>>Four grand of vertical.>>To here and then we see another
1000 below where we started.>>Awesome.>>This is one of the reasons why I
keep coming back to Portillo, Chile, year after year after year to ski
this line right here, it’s that good. And drop it.>>Whoa!>>Man, I think it’s poured
off right in front of me. We good? My God.>>My gosh.>>We just skied 5,200 vertical feet and
found amazing snow the whole way down>>That’s the magic of Portillo. That’s the magic of the super city.

  1. I am not able to find Glory Pop "Touch My Heart (Instrumental)" anywhere. Are you sure about this one? I am looking for the beginning music until ~38s and then you can hear it again from 2:05 to 2:40

  2. man so that was so beautiful, i haven't skied since I was a kid but this brought back memories of spending time in the mountains as a kid!

  3. "Yo whattup guys, I don't own a GoPro and would like you guys to not check my channel out cause I don't have extreme footage" – said no one ever

  4. Never understand why bother with all this swooshing. Just go like a bat out of hell straight down. Now that'd be something to watch. This? Seen it a million times.

  5. Chilean Andes + Sk + SnowBoard + Dakar + Downhill Valparaíso + Atacama Desert + Geisers of Tatio + Volcano + Hot Springs… Come to chile !!!!

  7. 4:30 Is that lake frozen? If not, can anyone tell me how it's still liquid at that temperature? 😀

  8. it must be painful hiking in ski boots, i mean i can barely walk on flat ground in ski boots so i couldn't imagine walking uphill.

  9. Brilliant video, thank you for sharing the experience. There are some truly beautiful and amazing places, still unseen by most.

  10. GoPro you should do something in India too. We need you. We have everything you need. And also gov might allow us to do something crazy 😉

  11. Love it – thank you! I probably had 1/5th as much fun watching this in my living room as you had doing it, and I didn't have to take the risk of ending my life.

  12. Can anyone answer why these guys hiked the mountain? They could’ve easily skinned the way up until the rocks, which was only a minor part of the climb

  13. Just wondering why you didnt skin up that initial slope….less knackering than stepping with skis on your back…….looks fab though?
