SportsLab:…how to train like a rugby player


Hi, I’m Wayne Gordon. Ex-International Athlete,
Celebrity personal trainer, and sports rehabilitation
specialist. And today, I’m going to teach you how to train
like a rugby player. Rugby is a high contact
dynamic sport, which requires the athlete
to have immense strength, power, flexibility, speed, and agility and more importantly
endurance. Our first exercise
is a power squat, this will work
on the leg strength and power. Start with a weight in one hand,
squat down to the floor, leaving the weight behind and you’re gonna explode up
in the air as high as you can. On landing squat back down
collect the weight and squat out the position. Repeat this exercise 20 times. Our, second exercise
is the Wood Chop. This mimics the parts in action
during the game, but also challenges the core. Start in a Semi-squat position
with a weight to one side. Dynamically rotate the body taking the weight across
the body in a diagonal action. Repeat this exercise
20 times on each side.
