Stay tuned, because here comes my “all-purpose-weapon” – the suspender! Hi, nice to have you back! I´,m Martin and today we are talking about the drill “suspenders”. Supenders – a drill my players already know… …they know exactly the first tennis lesson in a season…. …has to do with the “suspenders”. Why first tennis lesson? Because its always difficult to change from clay to carpet / hard-court or carpet / hard court to clay. The conditions are very different. The balls are jumping in other way…. …and the “suspenders” is the best tool… …so that your player accustom to the new conditions. A suspender is looking like this from the back… …so we have one side to play cross… …and at the front – there is one side to play longline. So suspenders is very easy: one side cross, one side longline. …so which targets am I going to follow with the suspenders drill? First I would say: hitting safety…. …second hit rythm feeling…. …and third play on target… …and fourth: footwork – why footwork? Because the player who is running to the cross ball… …is really under pressure. The brilliant thing on this drill is…. …that you can combine this system cross / longline… …very good in game situations all kind. So you could make a game situation in singles… …or doubles. For example you play 4 time suspenders after that play the point… …and so on… How full of variety this drill is I am going to show you right now. Example suspenders – drills for safety and rhytm. 1. Volley ins small court. 2. Volleys in small court with 2 balls. 3. Suspenders in big court 1vs1. Dont`t forget to change directions on a all drills. 4. Suspenders big field 1vs1 with player change after 2 hits. 5. Suspenders big field doubles formation. Example suspenders – Game situations 6. Suspenders 2vs2 doubles formation. 1 suspender then play point. 7. Suspenders 2vs2 net attack – 1 suspender then play point. 8. Suspenders 2vs2 net attack – play as long as you can suspenders over t-line. when shorter: attack ball for the others. Of cource you can mix the drills on the suspenders drill.
